Tom Lehrer - (I'm Spending) Hanukkah in Santa Monica b/w A Christmas Carol (red-blue-green-white 7"vinyl)
It’s a certifiable holiday bonanza at Stand Up! Records! The iconic Tom Lehrer is here with a back-to-back pair of classics, (I’m Spending) Hanukkah in Santa Monica and A Christmas Carol, hot and ready for all your cocktail party needs. While Side A proceeds with a jaunty, klezmer-inspired litany of Judaica that manages to name-drop the Maccabees and rhyme Yom Kippur with Mississippi, Side B strips it down to a piano-fueled lament of Christmas commercialism and all the shit Santa’s reindeer spread about in the name of consumerist cheer. Whether you’re drinking Manischewitz or eggnog, there’s no better record to set the mood!
A prodigious young composer, Tom Lehrer graduated from Harvard at age 18, worked for the NSA (where he claimed to have invented the Jell-o shot), and taught mathematics and musical theater at prestigious universities on both U.S. coasts. In the meantime, he developed a cult following as a performer of satirical and often political songs. Though his time as a musician was relatively brief, Lehrer’s work retained its underground popularity and has served as inspiration for everyone from Dr. Demento and Weird Al to Steely Dan and 2Chainz.
This single is limited to 300 holiday themed copies, 150 white with blue splatter, 150 white with red, blue and green splatter. Includes an accompanying booklet with the sheet music for both songs, and all in a wonderfully designed package by graphic designer Alan Hynes.
